I think a pattern is beginning to develop…
Top 5 Wednesday is hosted by Lainey over on Goodreads.
I would first just like to award pretty much everyone from the Harry Potter series an honorable mention because they could literally take up a top 20 list, so here’s to Luna Lovegood, Nymphadora Tonks, Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom, Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, Professor McGonagall and everyone else. Moving on.
5. Kvothe from The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss
Thief, Orphan, master of magic, trickery, and all around badass. He can also play the lute so well as to bring grown men to tears. I’m telling you what, this guy, should win an award for pure awesome.
4. Minnow Bly from The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly by Stephanie Oakes
As punishment for disobeying orders in her religious cult, her hands get chopped off. No joke. This kid goes around for an entire book (and the rest of her life) with no hands. Oh and did I mention the book starts out with her being arrest and set to juvie for beating a guy to a bloody pulp. Also, her cult leader is found dead rather mysteriously after the entire compound is burned down. So not only is that a great way to start a novel, she’s a handless badass.
3. September from the Fairyland series, also known as the Girl who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente
This might not be a character traditionally thought of as badass, but as a twelve year old girl, brought to a place where she goes off on quests, takes on an evil Marquess, and sacrifices her shadow all for others. Maybe it’s just another fairy tale, and maybe she’s just another Alice, Wendy, or Dorothy, but I think she’s a badass.
2. Vin from The Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson
Ingesting metals to gain the super strength, hearing, and nearly fly, or at least hover, this former thief and virtual orphan rose from a life on the streets, to defeat the Lord Ruler, who’s basically Voldemort, and goes on to become Empress. She’s pretty freaking badass, killing people left and right, still maintaining a mostly straight moral compass, and basically protecting everyone ever.
1.Sydney from Vicious by V. E. Schwab
Sydney has the power to raise the dead due to almost dying herself. She works with former convicts who occasionally kill people, got shot, and is twelve years old. She’s hands down the strongest character I’ve seen in a really long time and I’m absolutely in love with her. I wish she had her own spin off novel. Hell, even a series. I’d be pre-ordering that till the end of time.
So that’s my top 5 badasses, who are you’re favorites? Let me know down below.
